The only 1% of the population that our legal and political systems protect is the wealthiest 1%. Everyone else is subject to their whims and influence.
"it's left to the democratic process and...democracy is the best check on potentially misguided laws". If that were true, there would be no need for the SC to adjudicate these laws. The SC has been the venue to protect minority rights, but this Court just wants to roll these protections back.
Democrats lose to the move of tying legislation like this to defense spending because they're unwilling to take this opportunity to cut defense spending.
You cannot stop change, change is never ending, it always occurs, resisting change results in catastrophic consequences. It is better to learn to accept change and adapt. It is a human failing to attempt to resist change. People who lead us in attempting to prevent forward progress should be shunned
