If US wants to leave Europe to the Europeans, they also should leave the negotiations to the Europeans and Ukraine. Because they only talk nonsense anyway, it should assist in reaching a fair negotiation result.
I sympathize with Ukraine. Looking below is a bunch of bored people who don't actually know anything, and who just generically complain instead, while saying nothing. Ukraine deserves better than a bunch of wannabe sofawarriors who just rant and rave just kooks.

Trump’s statements regarding negotiations with Putin excluded Ukraine up until now. I trust this administration as far as I can throw them. Words matter. Much harder to throw Ukraine to the wolves if they’re in the room.
So why is it that we are represented at the highest levels by rank amateurs, that our diplomacy is conducted in public, giving away leverage before talks even start? Is that not treasonous?
As usual the moment anyone is away from the Trump fantasy world bubble and are forced to engage with (and if necessary be educated by) serious people they start talking more sensibly. Of course expect a Trump comment shortly completely undermining all that and everyone falling back into line.
He probably means „participate“ in the sense of „Europe will be responsible for making sure we‘re not running out of coffee and cookies during the meeting“.
Amazing how these US First flag wavers assume the rest of the world also believes their nationalist entitlement and swagger. Hope the EU can put him in his place. He is a nobody on a world stage full of people smarter, more skilled & competent, and compassionate than him & his country.
