Routing slips are a weird outlier, a sort of "message as the engine of application state" where the resumable and durable aspects are contained within the message itself, allowing you to use messaging within an orchestrated flow.

I like the concept of MATEOAS. Around 2019, I did a talk at RESTFest in Wroclaw (Poland) and mentioned something like that but never took the time to think about it properly. Some sort of hypermedia in EDAs too. Anyway, just dumping crazy undeveloped thoughts 😅

I think that is how a Routing Slip works, in essence, but I don't know if folks have explored the idea of serializing the workflow to the header fully.

Ah yeah, I know what it is. This is very interesting. Never thought about it as a potential solution for this. I'm just missing how to express relationships (hyperlinks) between messages if that even makes sense 🤔

Great summary. One thing that's really killed our org is opinionated orchestration between domains. Classic route to a big ball of distributed mud. Choreography is the dream 💔
