Yes, Europe becoming a more well-armed continent, where inevitably some of those countries will shunt in and out of various powers’ “spheres” is bad for Europe and the world. Hope that helps.

But Ukranians were already dying, even when the US was helping Ukraine. (Yes, I know the argument that fewer might have died if help from the US had been more full-bodied.) I of course despise Trump but there is no easy answer to this war, even if all non-Russian states acted morally.

There's the question of "guns and butter". Government funding is not infinite, and many EU countries have advanced welfare states that eat up money. Militaries are expensive, even moreso if you intend to create your own MIC and nuclear deterrent.
