DCC waiver for mass timber and wood frame purpose built rental, pay for through a Property Tax / LVT shift.

Basically, try to increase domestic demand as much as possible, and save as much of the industry that you can while leaning in to solving the housing crisis.

Repeat across industries.

With buildings, another tool will be a shift to simpler, more structurally efficient floorplans. As you mentioned though, the scale of the imports and proposed tarriffs makes it painful no matter what.

Absolutely. We are permitting single stair, but with wider stairwells and 4 unit maximums, up to 6 stories.

They probably should've just copied Seattle, but made it 12.

Another nuclear option here is to radically change the existing stumpage system into an auction based system that will allow the domestic market to quickly and more accurately price in the reduced demand for lumber due to tariffs and allow the domestic market to take advantage.

This not only destroys the US' primary complaint with the Canadian system of logging that they use to justify the Softwood Lumber tariffs, but also lets us try to better stimulate more domestic demand.
