*women are free to wear what they want

* commercial banks reopen Thursday.

•Aleppo airport to resume domestic flights soon.

•State employees told to return to work.

•Harm to journalists punishable by prison.

most I hope for it a loose federal structure where each faction continues to control their fiefdoms. The Kurds, the Alawites, moderate Sunnis, etc. won't stand for Salafists, we all know what happened to ISIS and so does this new leader. Civil War is still possible because of Hezbollah/Iran later on

I watched an interview with the new leader and tbh he did impress me with his sounding reasonable admitting to youthful mistakes of zealotry and being disillusioned by it. we will see if power corrupts him (or the interview an act) or if the situation is untenable being so many competing factions.

Weird. I was reliably assured by Ben Rhodes that it was a fool's errand to overthrow Assad because there would be horrific blowback and Assad's terrorist replacements would be so much worse somehow.

Perhaps the balkanized nature of Syria’s many factions is benefiting them right now. There is also the example of Israel the Arab world seems to be increasingly acknowledging- that democracy is in fact good and desirable.

I think the posture HTS takes is going to depend a great deal on Israeli response. Although HTS can really help diffuse tensions merely by recognizing Israel's right to exist.

I don't know how likely that is. Hopefully pragmatic people are talking to these guys.
