Thinking about Elon, Trump and the rest of them, you want leaders who can look back on the newsreels of the 1930s and 1940s and viscerally know that the Allies were the good guys. Elon, Trump and they're big cronies don't see it that way.

I think they *did* watch those newsreels, if not them personally, at least those who are advising them. There is too much similarities between then and now. They may be arrogant enough though that they are confident they can avoid the pitfalls.
Some of them, generously, are so spun up & out on FDR betrayed us to Stalin shit that they can't think straight anymore. There's no context to any of their choices, just self protection of the fragile selves & self interest.
Gore Vidal was right, at least about calling Conservatives crypto-Nazis back in the 1970s. The only reason even that generation of Conservatives hated Nazis is because they attacked us. If we had been left alone by Japan, the Republican party would have been defined by being pro-Nazi
This right here. We had plenty of Nazi supporters at home during WW II, like the Bush family and the Coors family. IBM actively participated in maintaining databases of Jews. Operation Paperclip wasn’t about freedom it was about bringing friends home to continue their valuable work!
And they tried to get rid of FDR in his 1st term THE BUSINESSMANS PLOT @davetroy.com in 1934. Smedley Butler marine Maj general was supposed to do their dirty work but he exposed the plot to Congress.
The old 'there's good people on both sides' bs? Two sides to every story..?🙄 It's embarrassing, offensive but yet the people who support that, quantity and 'quality'.. are surprising.
I regularly think of that scene at the beginning of Remains of the Day. The meeting at Lord Darlington’s home in Britain. The selfish discussion about appeasing Hitler. Christopher Reeves’ character, a U.S. Senator, scolds them all and calls them amateurs. That’s where we are now.
For those who wanted to know what it was like in the 1930's Germany and 1918 US, you're living it. Same mistakes being repeated. Ignoring fascism and ignoring an ongoing pandemic.
And the correct response to "Stalin and the British Empire were also very very bad" is "yes, and the fact that it's still clearly the correct side shows you just what we're dealing with in the goddamn Nazis."
I heard a scholar of robber barons say that Elon, Bezos, etc. differ in that they don’t care what people think of them or their legacy on the same way as Carnegie, Rockefeller, etc. Have you found that to be true?
Also, Rockefeller gave us all those world-class museums and parks in Cleveland, and by the way he made sure they were free to the public forever. Thank you, robber barons!
Oh, no no no, don't you listen to what they keep telling you? It's for our own good that we submit to their superior intellect and their superior power. They have our (ahem) best interests at heart.

They are all Nazis and this is their plan.
And now possibly Ukraine, Panama, Canada and / or Greenland?
Some of the modern times leaders didn’t seek to be the good ones.
Or let’s say: most of them?
