Thx for that. When I got married and decided to change my name, I went to the SSA office in person, marriage certificate in hand, to make the change and get a new card. I went there first, figuring it would make the other name changes easier if I had a SS card in my new name.

Yeah, I can't get an updated driver's license or passport until my name is updated in the social security system. I'm hoping that I can show them the papers in person so they don't have a chance to lose it. But I do have extra copies of my documents just in case.
