2/ Additional matter. This shldn't be necessary. But it's important. Under modern rules there's a 60 vote threshold vote for "cloture" and then if it passes that there's a 50 vote threshold vote on the bill itself. If a senator says they're a No I would want to know specifically whether they mean...

3/ they're a no on "cloture". There's a scenario where someone tells you they're a No but they mean on the second vote. Obviously that's bullshit. So watch out for that.

I just called my MN senators again - can't get through at any of Klobuchar's 5 offices, but I left a message. I spoke to a staffer for Smith who said she still hasn't declared how she will vote, but that the staff will "absolutely pass along" constituents' wishes for how they want her to vote.

Cory Booker's office told me this morning that he had no statement. Andy Kim's told me that he was pushing for a 30 day deal to seek a bipartisan solution, but didn't say how he was actually voting.
