I think there’s some formula where sometimes you get it and sometimes you don’t, often to do with where you link from or another formula. I did get a paywall but I have a sub so I just logged in

Sometimes accessing an article via a different browser will get you in. My naive assumption is that they’re giving you a limited number of free views, but that the cookies counting the views are browser-specific.

In the US, that would be ~12.25 million. Imagine if that many citizens were to converge on DC on the same day.

I don't think you need 3.5% of the population all in one single city that is normally substantially smaller. (0.680 million.)

Plus travel, like from the West coast. For EU readers, that's about the same distance as traveling from Portugal to Moscow. Assume no trains.

Good, encouraging article. I would have liked more examples of successful non-violent movements, and why the unsuccessful ones failed. Quoting dissidents in Hungary, Nicaragua and the USSR is less informative - these countries regimes were not taken down by a peoples' movement.
