It's interesting to see the cross-discipline comparisons. Our Athena Swan renewal is partly focusing on why men and boys aren't studying biology A-level, leading to a female-biased gender ratio in our undergraduates. 43,255 females and 24,915 males took Biology A-level in 2024 (73% more females).

Interestingly, we thought chemistry might be male biased and we were wrong: 32,675 females have A level chem, 25,440 males have A level chem (28% higher for females). Males score slightly higher in A-level chem: 30.9% >=A for females in chem, 33.8% >=A for males.
