Yes, that’s an unfortunate truth. I guess I just don’t understand why it has to be whitewashed. What does that accomplish, besides consolidation of power (which I assume is the driving force).

It’s so frustrating because I constantly imagine what we (humans) could accomplish if there wasn’t so much division. Collective intelligence could produce so much good in the world and I understand how they let racism, bigotry, sexism, etc, get in the way of that.

To build back and make America what it must become, we must create those kind of networks, sharing with community groups to bring together citizens to educate, organize, strategize and mobilize. I am lucky to be part of such a group that has met monthly for seven years.

Agreed! I recently found a good community where I live. Now the hope is that what we have seen thus far in the deterioration of our institutions and democracy will open more eyes and get more people motivated.

Pardon my assessment. I believe we got to this place because for decades too many of us older Americans did not do our part to get involved in PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY. When people are engaged in their communities, it guards against extremism and bigotry. And charlatans like Trump. Here we are.
