idk who needs to hear this but if you wanna be good at splatoon you gotta love the game lol
there's no "correct" option but at some point time in = skill out
i got up to (fraud) div x with 0.1% solo so it's possible to get very far without it, but i was still thinking abt the game all the time...

is not playing splatoon outside of with my friends or in a coordinated setting a good idea if im still trying to improve? idk how valuable soloq is to me and if i wanna grind it anymore besides maybe S+10 every season

sure we only played once or twice a week for a long time but my splatoon hour count on the switch is a deceptive misrepresentation of how much i care
the doomposting has always been baffling to me b/c I don't think the game has ever been so bad as to be unplayable; maybe that's b/c my enjoyment comes from fundamental game mechanics that they'd never mess up
you are NOT going to make a living off splatoon, so just play the way makes you happy and makes you inspired to keep playing
i say a lot of intense things but it comes from wanting to be the best i can be
pushing to try and be the best is hard work lol
it's a job of sorts
i just like the game enough that I think it's fun to do
anyway tl;dr i really like splatoon rant over
bc the general mentality is quite poor and work ethic is low
the fastest way to improve is to not stop trying lol
efficiency and enjoyment are often INVERSELY correlated
playing terrible rotations in solo and figuring out how to win on bad maps, with a GOOD MENTALITY, while you go -150...is not fun
but it's pretty efficient

I'd imagine most ppl prefer to play with friends over soloq but still like soloq, however when their interest in the game as a whole goes down they stop wanting to play soloq but still want to get better at the game
having fun should always take priority (there's exceptions obviously) but having a good mindset usually leads to improving
but i guess my point is you dont need a good mentality if you're not trying to reach the pinnacle and i think most ppl think they wanna be the best but they don't really know what that means
most people just aren't, but you can have an incredibly fulfilling experience without it, so just have fun
i feel like the "how do i become the best" conversation doesn't even make sense until you get to a certain point
however remembering that getting a certain luti div does not reflect how good you actually are at playing the game would be a good starting point
