i've literally never disliked splatoon i've always been happy to play or think about it

the doomposting has always been baffling to me b/c I don't think the game has ever been so bad as to be unplayable; maybe that's b/c my enjoyment comes from fundamental game mechanics that they'd never mess up

I think a better question is what would get you better at the game the fastest. You gain different skills depending on how you engage with the game and knowing which ones are the most valuable to you at the time helps, but at the end of the day you need to engage with the game to improve

Yeah true. I think it's a matter of people liking the game enough to play it but not enough to put in the hours to improve, leading to them to want to figure out optimal ways to get better because they want to improve without putting in much effort (speaking from personal experience here)

efficiency and enjoyment are often INVERSELY correlated

playing terrible rotations in solo and figuring out how to win on bad maps, with a GOOD MENTALITY, while you go -150...is not fun

I'd imagine most ppl prefer to play with friends over soloq but still like soloq, however when their interest in the game as a whole goes down they stop wanting to play soloq but still want to get better at the game

I think a big reason this scene isn't growing as much as 1. Lack of content and 2. People get discouraged after losing and never try to persevere

having fun should always take priority (there's exceptions obviously) but having a good mindset usually leads to improving

it's like saying you "want to" become an olympic athlete but you don't train full effort every time, including the exercises you think aren't fun; and take care of yourself correctly (diet, sleep, etc.); and study what your weaknesses are and actively improve at the things you suck at; etc.

most people just aren't, but you can have an incredibly fulfilling experience without it, so just have fun
