He was jealous and possessive and paranoid. We were teenagers, both 16. One thing I’ve always been proud of is that even at 16, I recognised his behaviour was toxic and would smother me.

As teens do (or did, back then), my wall was covered with (completely clothed) male celebs. He told me to take them down bc he was my bf and it wasn’t appropriate for me to look at other guys, even on posters.

Never mind he had mostly naked female supermodels on his walls… which never bothered me, btw. When I suggested he take his posters down, he said it was natural for him to look at these women, it was completely different to me looking at posters of guys.

If we went shopping and I stopped to look at something in a window, he’d accuse me of perving on another guy. Um no, I’m looking at books. If I looked behind me when driving, it must be because the driver behind me was cute.

I made the choice to break up as soon as I woke up that morning. We went to different schools so my friends knew what I was going to do before I did it (in those ancient times before mobile phones)

Last I heard, he’d proposed to his gf at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Just his style to be as OTT as possible. I sincerely hope he’d changed, but if he didn’t, the gf recognised his character long before they married.
