or art depicting sexuality they don't like, art that speaks to an individual's experience that goes against their beliefs, art that's simple, fanart... A lot of the people posturing about how we need weird art are the same folks who harass the artists that make it.
True but I personally will eat it all up nom nom nom all gone yummy yummy for my tummy I love abstract art and weird games me and my small group of weird stuff enjoyers will consume
listen everyone talked abt how ppl cant make weird art in bad conditions etc but my own hangup is that most people, including other artists, dont want weird art. they want aesthestic posters that may be slightly offputting to a normie or an illustration with an epic trans rights slogan
Idk if its different circles or if im just sheltered, but ive always felt really supported with my weird stuff, especially by other artists :). And especially lately there seems to be an explosion of freaks doing really boundary pushing furry stuff!!
Im not well read on the social/public side of art and art education but i wonder if (for most people) its less a lack of want and more a lack of knowing whats out there... or smth!!!
this is absolutely also my problem. A lot of people really do NOT want to think about art, and the blue-curtains-mean-nothing crowd has made it that much worse.
like its fine to critique how rich people influence art and art auctions (though idk why we act like this hasnt been an issue in almost every art era that rich people existed) but some people are too close to just saying shit like degenerate art. like cmon
God yeah absolutely. Giving the middle finger to the grift is one hundo A OK.
I meant specifically the 'it doesn't mean anything!' or 'I could do that!' Like, this noxious idea that just because they don't get it at a glance means it's bad and stupid.
