This country in a nutshell: addicted to complaining.
Brand new subway trains had some ride issues so people complained. Subway then has this fixed, obviously at a monetary cost, about which people now complain.

It's not only whether we are prepared to pay for those services, but whether that money would be better spent elsewhere.

The same people who complain about taxes and spending now want a little used pedestrian bridge that was never a right of way to be reinstated despite being only 200m from the road bridge...
The bridge simply completed a loop that allowed dog walkers to start at the road bridge, down a muddy farmers track before crossing over the line and returning to the same road bridge on the other side...
As you can probably guess from my profile picture, I was one of those dog walkers that used to use that bridge before it was removed.
