Yeah, as someone who *actually* has autism, I find that 'blaming autism' completely insulting to those with autism. Blaming autism or any other mental disorder is NOT an EXCUSE for horrible behavior.

As a general rule, any member of a group who claims that their horrible behaviour is caused by and is endemic to their group should always be called out (ideally by members of that same group) for bigotry - denigrating the group and encouraging prejudice against it.

Its real easy for us to lean into it as a crutch or excuse.

For me its sorting out how I work and what my actual disabilities are. I was perfectly functional and masking 24/7 until I crashed hard in burnout approaching 40.

Now that I know what it is I'm holding myself more accountable.

But even still, my insistance on not seeing myself as disabled is a huge amount of internalized ableism. Its been hard to accept the framing remotely or take account of what things are harder for me than others.

These fuckers make us all look bad.
