Treatment with ivacaftor does not alter S. aureus burden in the cystic fibrosis rat but led to the formation of tolerant SCVs, suggesting that development of an SCV phenotype may allow S. aureus to persist in the cystic fibrosis lung during ivacaftor therapy:
