Black women are currently 0.8% of full Professors in US medical schools.
Black students represent about 4% of the MD-PhD candidates in US programs with significant attrition in these numbers regarding how many of us stick to it and try to make a career out of it.

I dreamed for a long time to be a physician scientist. That dream saw me study for 20-years after high school to earn my MD, PhD and complete a specialty and sub-specialty training in internal medicine and infectious diseases.
I have worked extremely hard and earned all my accomplishments.

To see that dream feel more tenuous, to see the narrative being changed to tell folks like me that we don't belong, that we are simply DEI tokens that need to be purged is beyond demoralizing. Why carry on? why be in spaces where the system tells you that you don't belong?

I am under no illusion that the next four years will be easy for my career. I know my resolve will be tested and who knows maybe it will even break. But right now in this moment, I know how much my presence in science and medicine matters and I will hold on to that and keep carrying on.

Thank you for posting. I think we need to compile the statistics for all of the fields to prove the point that they have always controlled these fields. We have to counter their very dangerous false narratives.
