1/ Since Jan 2025, Equateur province has seen multiple outbreaks of illness & deaths. The latest cluster in Basankusu reported 141 new cases last week (no deaths), adding to prior cases—1096 sick & 60 dead across two health zones.

2/ Symptoms include fever, headache, chills, stiff neck, joint pain, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, & nosebleeds. Lab tests ruled out Ebola & Marburg. Half of samples tested positive for malaria, but more tests are ongoing, including for meningitis & contamination.

3/ Remoteness & poor infrastructure hinder healthcare access. WHO deployed experts to strengthen surveillance, conduct interviews & provide treatment. 80+ community health workers trained to detect & report cases, with emergency medical supplies delivered.

4/ More efforts are needed to reinforce testing, early case detection & response not just for this outbreak, but for future ones. WHO & health authorities remain on the ground, working to curb the spread & save lives. the absence of the CDC is missed, as they would have been a part of this.

Yes it is. Different region and completely new clusters . two separate clusters. One is though to be more linked to likely environmental contamination (water source), the other more concerning for infection of unclear etiology.
