There are 1 million people with HIV in the United States. Many southern states are grappling with high levels of new infections, especially in large cities. We have the tools to end the epidemic in the US but without funding for prevention it is guaranteed that this effort will fail.

Many communities will suffer...needlessly. This year we were celebrating Lenacapavir the novel hiv prevention drug with requires only twice yearly injection for basically 100% efficacy in preventing HIV infections. What use is innovation without resources to ensure access?

Disease elimination requires sustained effort and funding to maintain and where HIV is concerned, the US has NOT achieved elimination. There are about 31,000 new infections every year, each of which already represents a failure in reaching communities with available preventative measures.

In 1993, HIV was the leading cause of death in people ages 25-44 in the US. Accounting for 19% of deaths in this age bracket. Reversing the trend took research investment into treatment and prevention and advocacy. Crippling HIV funding will take us backwards.

About 700,000 people have died in the US from HIV since 1981. With the progress we have made in 40 years, in the wealthiest country on earth every HIV death and every new HIV infection should be preventable.
The government should FUND not GUT HIV prevention. That's the only right thing to do.

Ppl cont. to get infected w/covid repeatedly- which damages the immune system- & are developing long covid at alarming rates. HIV therapies have shown potential re. LC, & ongoing support for HIV treatment/research is crucial both for those at increased risk of HIV & those becoming disabled by covid.
