It breaks my heart that we lost so many people during the peak pandemic years, and yet we learned absolutely nothing. The only people who seem to still care about unmitigated infectious disease spreading are the people who cared all along, everyone else just whining about egg prices.

Vaccination alone won't fix it, just as it hasn't for covid and measles. Infrastructure changes are needed, the way eggs and chickens are farmed, the way cattle are raised. But, gosh, then prices would go up, right?

It is true, looking at other countries where this outbreak did not occur and the birds are not vaccinated, it all seems to be a question of management of poultry farms and dairy farms.

I don’t think we can vaccinate ourselves out of these issues

Some inherent pandemic risks with breeding and slaughtering more than 70 billion chickens per year (more than 2x all wild birds combined)

Not to mention the grinding baby chicks alive and the suffering of all those animals
