In the early 1950s 🇬🇧 , (in a crowd with my parents) a black woman approached and asked for the time. A man responded with filthy racial abuse. Her response 'I am a nurse here.You may be white,but your heart is black.'And walked away with dignity.
No one said a thing.
Never forgotten.
So it goes.
