Art is inherently historical and exists within the narrative and cultural context it was created.

This is what genAI proponents gesture at grasping and fail to. They're so proud of their word prompts thinking that's enough context to substantiate that narrative around their results. It's not.

GenAI only has one is one singular context, and it is simple a denial of meaning. it's narrative is an expression of disdain, contempt, laziness, greed, and inflicting humiliation. It's an act of disrespect of culture and history by robbing it the chance of either of those things to be made

I personally believe meaning is measured in loss. You know how meaningful something is by how much it'll impact you to lose it. The cost it takes for art to exist is immeasurable and so is its meaning. people literally kill their bodies and devastate their lives and risk their safety to create art.

When art is generated without the cost of what you are personally willing to lose for it to exist, without what it's audience is willing to lose to have it, it generates nothing. There is no story, because there was no journey, and when there's no journey there is only entropy.

I wouldn't classify it as suffering, but I agree that the effort it takes for art to be made is often painful or without care of pain absolutely

Great thread. My quip/not really is, when AI burns out and commits suicide at 27 years old, that's when I'll believe it is creative. AI doesn't know struggle. It doesn't wake up saying "I have to create or I'll whither and die". Because of all this (+ your thoughts) AI doesn't know empathy... yet.
