I'm trying to find a new fantasy TTRPG system to learn and run. I've played enough 5e and I have no care for the 2024 edition. On top of that, I'm not a fan of how crunchy Pathfinder can feel at times so that's out. I'm just not sure what could work so anyone got and recommendations? - ThreadSky

Have you taken a peek at any osr stuff? Something like Shadowdark or 5 torches deep might be up your alley.

Dragonbane! It's a very easy to learn, easy to run game that's skill based and a perfect fit for a lot of D&D style adventuring.

There's three things people might bounce off when they read Dragonbane:
1 - It's a skill based roll under system. If you have a skill of 15, you gotta roll 15 or lower on a d20.
2 - it's not super-heroic fantasy like 5e. Characters are relatively normal people.
3 - It uses card based initiative.

If none of those are immediate deal breakers, I really recommend it. It will take a bit of adjustment to get used to the difficulty/danger curve, but it's worth it.

Heart is way less crunchy then either D&D or Pathfinder.

I'm a big fan of dungeon crawl classic. The funnel is fun, but definitely over emphasized. There is also a Lankmar setting supplement that adds some more survivability rules for PCs.
