Large government agencies like HHS tend to sprawl over time, as offices and staff get added to respond to new priorities. There is a benefit to occasional reorganizations of HHS. But, this is also about big staff and program reductions.

A lot of what HHS employees do is behind the scenes oversight, to prevent fraud and abuse and ensure health care programs provide the services promised. Reductions in the federal workforce could result in more wasteful spending down the road.

This is a major effort to put the Make America Healthy Again agenda front a center. There is bipartisan support for addressing chronic disease, but efforts to improve healthy behaviors may work at cross purposes to dramatic reductions in federal programs and big cuts to Medicaid.

Essential, my ass. FTE’s and all the contractors are tripping over themselves. Half the contracts are pure waste. Every agency in the US Govt can withstand FTE cuts, 30% of SES cuts and 30% contract cuts easily. Dems are pure status quo on a bloated Fed Govt.

The health care "industry" was already a disaster. Now it will be decimated. There will be a huge exodus of health care providers as it will be impossible to do their jobs. This will of course result in many no longer being able to access health care. And we all know how that ends.
