What you aren’t seeing is that on another channel, I’ve been rolling dice for things like insight, which really shifts the scene around as far as expectations go. (I’m writing both characters in this particular scene, but most of the time that’s not the case)

Here’s where dice do the storytelling: Effie rolled a nat 20 self insight and it provoked this reaction of removing herself from the situation. I couldn’t’ve predicted this and it cut the scene shorter than I expected, but that’s the fun nature of play-by-post #dnd. You’ll be surprised & you adapt!

One of said previous scenes where the cleric in the party was left alone with Bug, who is their item enchanter who works in Effie’s workshop. The priest encouraged some long awaited honesty from him.
