Having seen them in order, I can’t say whether it would work as an introduction to the series without the mini, but for me “33” crystallized what the show was better than the mini did. I wasn’t a fan of the mini but watched the series when it kicked off - after “33”, I loved it & was hooked.

Respectfully, I think 33 works even better in the absence of the miniseries. I agree that it's not technically an introduction... but you don't need to see the assault on Caprica to follow the story. It's all implied, perhaps more elegantly than it's presented in the initial presentation.

Definately right, 33 ist just breathtaking!
The first time I watched it I was flashed by the intensity of the story and the fantastic actors.
The episode does work on its own, but having seen the miniseries before was an advantage imho.

You FEEL the exhaustion of the pilots. Really really brilliant. BSG went on about a season too long I think but it's just outstanding sci fi. That first series was consistently brilliant.

I've only seen the show and not the miniseries, but when I started watching the show, I actually thought 33 stood on its own fine. It felt like a solid introduction with background is provided over the course of later episodes, so I didn't realize I was "missing" the miniseries until much later 😅

I watched 33 without knowing about the miniseries and (younger me) was blown away. Everything is there for a great first ep of an episodic series (future episodes would develop things). The miniseries is a masterpiece and required to understand the complete story, but 33 works IMO.

Back in the day many in my online community (including myself) were pretty on the fence with the reboot after the miniseries, but the double-whammy of “33” and “Water” got most of us immediately hooked.
