Well, WRITTEN Sci-fi is 30 years ahead of movie and TV sci fi, and most people don't READ.

As an example, let's think of an SF show using vector-thrust that ISN'T Babylon 5, reboot BSG, 2001, 2010, or The Expanse.

In the case of BSG it's cuz Mojo Lebowitz (Babylon 5) insisted.

And that's before we get into the IDEAS. Took till the 2010s before TV/Film SF REALLY caught up to the 1980's Cyberpunk writers (Blade Runner, Red Dwarf, and some anime excepted).

One of the things I learned early is that not everyone has the same level of reading comprehension. A lot of people simply ignore things they don't understand instead of pondering, questioning, or looking for context clues.

It's like how some people missed that Starship Troopers was satire

Such is the case with Musk. The guy's always making geek references, to the point of naming his vehicles as easter eggs, but he hasn't got a clue about these works. Or maybe he did and chose to be the bad guy.

Musk is, and always was, a try hard. He desperately wants to be cool, but constantly misses the point. He wants so bad to be "Tony Stark" but constantly proves he's "Justin Hammer".

He wants approval so badly that he'll play to any audience who embraces him, even if it's his ultimate undoing.

Anybody read “The Ministry for the Future”? Last few years the headlines have read like chapters of this book, and it was horrifying enough, but now I think the author was way too optimistic.
