I think that's a great description of a moral lesson. Figuring out who we are in relation to each other and the world.

I don't believe horror needs to teach a moral lesson to be effective. It should instead use fear to inspire introspection and dark wonderment, to question the self. What are we in relation to the many parts that make us up? Good parts, bad parts, or the parts we aren't aware of.
