Trading Bellinger/Hoerner to open space on the roster to add an impact bat is to me, without question, absolutely the right decision.
Unfortunately I also agree with the core concern in this piece: Jed will accomplish the trade part and never bother to add the impact bat because money.
It would seem trading Nico would free up the upgrade cash, if that's genuinely the issue, between the Kikuchi/Eovaldi tier and Fried. And there's obviously a lot more org redundancy and opportunity to improve the offense there.
A consistent inability to evaluate and pay talent - homegrown or otherwise. They do not spend wisely. How much did Patrick Wisdom make before he finally left town?
I’m 100% with you, Michael. What in the fuck would this FO be doing trading Bellinger for an inflated contract or a marginal prospect return? My patience is wearing thin with the payroll limitations in such a large market. I don’t care how close they are to the lux cap. Start signing impact players.
The only way I’m okay with this trade to open up PT for ONKC/Alcantara is if the Cubs eat the Bellinger money to increase the return. Only way it makes any sense to me.

We have a too many right fielders problem so it's not the worst idea if it's a decent deal. But it probably won't be.
