Those reacting negatively to this really need to go check out Turner's results the last two years.

Is he who he was in 2017/2018? No. He's obviously declining.

But he's put up wRC+ of 115 and 117 in 2023 and '24, respectively (15% and 17% better than league average).

That's a valuable guy.

Present-day value was pretty close, due to $20m deferred. Bregman turned down the Cubs for an opt-out after year one (instead of year two) and it probably helps his free agency to bang balls off the green monster too.

Excellent addition: a quality RH hitting 1B backup. Bench is crowded: Carson Kelly, plus 3 of Justin Turner, Alexander Canario, Vidal Brujan, Gage Workman (4 of them can make starting roster if/when Nico Hoerner starts season on the IL)

I like the move. Above average guy last year, veteran presence, and most likely is going to be taking the role Wisdom had. This is definitely going to help Shaw adjust to his new role in the majors.
