I just read Joe Sacco's War on Gaza short. Difficult stuff. On the one hand the issue is not complicated, Israel has gone way too far and should have stopped a long time ago. The other question, what Gaza "means," is much more difficult.

If he thinks you'll have a hard time getting published in the United States, you already know where it's going to fall. Anything pro-israel would be snapped up by a publisher in about 5 seconds.

The fact he’s working with Joe Sacco essentially confirms for me it will be on point. If you haven’t, check out “Palestine” (1996), “Footnotes in Gaza” (2009).

Safe Area Goražde (2000), about the genocide in Bosnia, is also excellent.

I remember, in Maus, Spiegelman wrote how his therapist commented that nobody had learned anything from the Holocaust, that maybe they need a "newer, bigger Holocaust".

Palestine feels like the newer, bigger Holocaust, and Spiegelman's earned the right to go for the jugular.
