Sometimes I randomly remember that Rian Johnson and Karina Longworth are a couple and it makes so much sense that he carved a niche making throwback mystery homages

He's also a huge Infocom fan, and they're basically throwbacks to their old mystery text adventures (Witness, Suspect, Hollywood Hijinx, etc.) Knives Out borrows half its plot from Deadline.
