I was woken up on Boxing Day 2004 by a 9.1 mw earthquake which resulted in a tsunami which killed 227,898 people. Most of whom were Asian or Indian, so not such a big fuss as if they had been European or American. My family were blessed by being on high ground in our hotel, not on the beach.
