Oo have any tips for black opal? It does not like me lol When I get a surplus, I dry and grind it to put in jars. I don't think I've bought basil but once or twice in years.
I winter sow all of my basil. I’m in IL 5b. In April, we still have frost days, I put the seeds in clear pots in a clear bin with holes in the top and bottom. I use potting mix without moisture crystals. They go outside & germinate as they would in nature. I transplant them to a herb planter later.
Since it is a warm weather plant, if you direct sow, it’s best immediately after the last frost date. While I prefer winter sowing, you could start indoors before the last frost date. I’m sure you’ve tried different things.
