it's a tournament between the champions of each continent's champions league, more or less, with a couple extra slots. It's not that big a deal but you would have expected better attendance numbers than this. It's typically used as a dry run by a world cup host for running a big tournament.
I can’t keep track of all the tournaments tbh. One of my barriers to get into the sport. I think I’ll continue to stick to the World Cup and maybe check in on the Champions League once in a while.
yeah it's worth keeping it simple, WC + UCL is really all you need, fwiw I grew up in a soccer-crazy country and the club world cup only had any real level of public interest once (in 2000, when Manchester United went to it over domestic tournaments and shit the bed immediately)
These weird matches are so random and then they place them in a random city in America, I am not surprised that people don't attend. Esp during a weekday match. I think it is a neat match up, but I am not going to take a day off work to go watch.
But Atlanta is not a random city in America, if only because it’s a huge airport hub for flights to and from Latin America. There are a lot of Latino fans from the US and abroad that would have flown in for this match
