I’ve been there (with my old office chair). It’s incredible how uncomfortable most modern office chairs are. Every chair I’ve tried had a short seat that seems fine at first but feels terrible after a while.

I was tired of reviews saying “best chair” and “broke down in 2 months; here is a photo”.
It is a bit expensive but I got the Ergohuman. It has lifetime or 20 year warranty. I cannot remember.

I bought a Haworth Fern a year or so ago, and I'm still loving it. It's holding up well and doesn't kill my back/butt/hips like the god forsaken Secretlab it replaced.

The only things they all agree on are 1) gaming chairs are awful and 2) the Herman Miller Aeron is still the best chair ever made. And absent another 2008 crash, they’re still obscenely expensive.

We have just waited for the occasional business to go into administration and eBay stores often have 200+ at a time of them second hand. I got mine for £400 a couple years ago.

indeed, thats why i went with the Herman Miller, so i would not think again of searching for another better chair :D Its ok one though. The Staples also has one model well rated, but could not find it where I am.

Get it used. The cost is mainly for the 10 year warranty that’s more useful for offices that toss the chairs around. Keep an allen wrench nearby and you’ll be able to keep it in good order longer than that.

Buy the Herman Miller Aeron. In a couple of years the semi-good/crappy one you would have bought (but hopefully I've convinced you otherwise) either falls apart or you can't stand it ONE MORE DAY. Then you're shopping for another one, again. Just get the Aeron!

May I recommend looking at the Steelcase Leap? I didn't like the Aeron because I tend to shift around in my seat a bit and kept ending up sitting on the plastic around the outside. The Leap is about the same price. I've had one for ~4 years and is easily the best chair I've ever owned.

I have a Tempur Pedic chair that's lasted for 10+ years and still going strong. I literally only bought a new one last year not because it broke but because I moved house and didn't want to keep moving my chair up and down the stairs to go between sewing and computer

I once sat in different chairs for at least 15 minutes each on every Thursday night for a few weeks until I decided on the most comfy and well made.

Office store staff thought I was bonkers but I bought 2 that lasted years.

There are a few places that remanufacture and resell Aerons and other high-end office chairs at a fraction of the new price. I got a Steelcase through Crandall a few years back and have been very happy with it.

Got the Herman Miller Aeron in the office and the Embody at home - full recommendation on both with preference towards Aeron. Don't forget to order the head rest. And get the right size! Above 1.80m, you want Large!

Get the amia. Don’t overthink it. It’s not as expensive as many other “recommended” chairs and fits most body types. It’s often overlooked.

If you haven’t, definitely check out SteelCase. Slightly more money, but Crandall Office Furniture regularly has clearance sales on them.

I keep almost just ordering a Herman Miller. Every time I do I'm sitting in my current desk chair like, "man, this sucks." Then I pull up a Herman Miller chair, see the price, and when I'm about to check out I'm like, "I can probably deal with this a little longer." I've done this probably 4 times.

I have about 12 office chairs floating around here. I live in a church, so there's a ton of space. The most comfortable one was made by Seally. I apologize, because all of this information is useless.
