The closest we’ve got is St Peter’s going to the Elite Eight after winning their conference tournament as the 2-seed. A lot of famous early round upsets (UMBC, FGCU, Lehigh etc) but not any national champs I can think of

From a small conference, not really.
NC State 1983 probably had to win the ACC Tourney to get into NCAA’s; and they won’t the championship.

My favorite part of basketball season! I’m looking forward to my SDSU Jackrabbit women’s basketball team dancing again. They are undefeated in the Summit conference.
I anticipate the Omaha Mavericks on the men’s side to win the Summit and make some noise in the NCAA tourney.
