1) just go outside!!! ok it sounds stupid but the biggest obstacle to organizing in my experience is reluctance to take that first leap and going and talking to folks!! don't be afraid to put yourself out there and just try to make friends!!

2) when making friends, look mostly for shared values. don't focus as much on whether they use a certain ideological label, focus more on whether they share your core values. you will get nowhere in organizing if you don't connect with those with shared values

3) avoid surrounding yourself with folks who have a doomerist outlook. not only will these people not be likely to do much to build community, but if doomerists are the only people in your life, you will almost certainly fall into that trap too and be spurred to inaction...

...by thinking everything is lost before the battle has even started. it's far more productive to channel those feelings of helplessness into action, and fighting back. the fight is never over. in fact it's barely just begun

4) avoid big name leftist orgs, such as DSA, PSL, etc. many of these orgs mostly funnel rightful anger at the political situation into bureaucracy, symbolic gestures, and inaction

start your own group. you don't need a name for it, it can just be a bunch of friends, but don't feel limited by what is most prominent in "leftist" spaces
