Every single game in the series has memes and callbacks to the past. It's insane, and it doesnt stop at referencing MGS1. MGS1 is basically a remake of MG2 on MSX

There's also a really good thematic Escalation in the Games' finale 1 on 1 fights

MGS1 you do a fistfight
MGS2 you do a sword fight
MGS3, you have a shootout

Heck, it continues to 4 and V a bit too

4 there's a Metal Gear Fight
And V gets meta, but you could argue that there's a Parasite fight

I like how solid 2 acknowledges the series' memes in the plot, like they literally say that they're trying to make Raiden into Snake by recreating the events of shadow Moses,

Meanwhile MGS1 is a very close remake of the events of Metal Gear 2 (MSX) but they don't even mention it lol

I wouldn't say it's the point but it's a huge part of the theme yeah

I'm just expressing that the actual connections between the two games are pages and pages long and you will keep noticing more and more over time
