Do we need to have a proper debate on the rainbow laces campaign? Felt very uncomfortable with apologies made for those not taking part. If everyone cited religious reasons no one would engage, and where would that leave us? If someone wrote a message on a kick it out shirt would we accept that?

I agree too. I think at a bare minimum we should expect Barry to be allowed to make the case against the laces-refusers, but Troy shut that right down, and then he was never allowed to come back to his point.

And as Jordan pointed out, the actual wording of what the rainbow laces campaign asks players to sign up to is incredibly tame - so if you can't even agree to THAT, it's pretty tricky to find explanations beyond bigotry.

I don’t see how there can be a defence. It feels like homophobia is the bottom of the pile and not backing equal rights here has some get out cards. Not understanding a campaign is one thing, as they said with the Neville example. Understanding and so making a message is another.

Sticks in my mind that the last of the “specials” was on homophobia and crypto currency ahead. And yes absolutely, Barry barely got three lines into his slight push back. Which is why it needs a bit more debate just to air different views rather than just in favour of the players

I'm a gay fan of the show. I thought the discussion on Friday of the Pride Armbands was frankly grotesque. Troy's words in particular gave truth to the lie that being queer and being religious are incompatible. Which is just not true. Being devout does not come with homophobia attached.

If a christian believes its wrong to be gay - like Marc Guehi apparently does (he seems to believe I need jesus) then they are a homophobe. If a Muslim is uncomfortable wearing anything to do with pride. They are a homophobe. One of my best mates is a queer muslim. You can be both.

Using devout religiosity as a justification for homophobia is insulting to both queer people and the religions in question. If Marc wants to clarify that he thinks gay people are welcome in christianity (fully welcome in gay relationships) then he can. Until then I'll think he's a homophobe.
