lol I watched that whole season semi recently since it’s basically forever streaming on YouTube. The Saturday Morning TMNT comics based on that show is hilarious though. It’s so meta with how much it mocks itself.
Except it was explained. it was the the rope Leonardo used to get on top of the building in the first place. Where did Leonardo get the rope? Same place Donatello got that pigeon puppet to sneak into TCRI in the Mirage comics and 2003 series.
What reasons are those? I'm curious, cause like, every iteration of TMNT has some of the most batshit things ever happen in them. The 80s toon having plenty of flubs or asking for suspension of disbelief shouldn't deter someone from enjoying it.
The Mirage series (disregarding the "guest era") tends to keep a somber, introspective tone with emotional heft. It goes many places but they found a baseline of reality to keep it at.
I love Laird's sociopolitical and sci-fi additions. His first solo issue was anti-nationalist. Xenophobia worries him, and you can see his love of Star Trek bleed through. He's so creative and introduces interesting ideas that bring me joy.

I get it's kind of a time capsule in a way.
Laird directly worked on the 2003 show, but I struggle with that one too, but I think I could ultimately tolerate it.
