I'm absolutely mortified at the idea anyone would think this is coming from a place of narcissism so hopefully it's not giving that. I'm just trying to make sense of why this feeling is here. 10/10

Nah I understand this entirely and sometimes have the same fears. a lot of the things I write from come from experiences I’ve had BEING A FURRY even if I’m not outright talking about paws and maws and ears and tails.
I’d like to think if ppl listened, that would resonate. Insecurity persists tho.
cassidy civet believes that shit because deep down she knows she isn’t talented enough as a performer or songwriter to present herself as an artist without the crutch of having a fursuit 🤷♀️
Yeah, she just says that stuff 'cause she can't bear the spotlight being on anybody but her for more than half a second.
If your worry is that she could be right... then I think you don't need to worry.
If she actually got what she wanted, nobody else would be allowed to be relevant anyway.
definitely not being narcissistic here and definitely yes living and acting authentically and with introspection that the certain civet types constantly lack
I think the question "why do I feel this way" about this, understandably doesn't have a simple answer. You've seen a lot of ways people do this incorrectly on social media, and likely distance yourself from being confused for being the same. There's not a lot of feedback. It sounds isolating.
That's me from the outside looking in and relating with my own issues re: making art and feeling disconnected from other artists. I know we aren't doing the same thing or even dealing with similar problems the same way, but as someone who's followed you for years, you're a creative powerhouse.
I still keep listening to your music and feel inspired by your design sense and the way it pairs with your artwork. I'm not expecting this to make everything better or even to make this make sense, but your work has moved me in multiple mediums, and I know your peers (quietly or otherwise) agree!
For sure, like not everyone is gonna do it the same way, that's what makes furry music interesting to begin with. Imo it should feel normal to feel a bit separated from others who have different metrics of what success looks like and different approaches overall.
Imo "furry" is a public-facing thing, cause it's a way we find other likeminded individuals. But expressing your lived experiences in art is a relationship with the self. There's this inherent tension between overturning your soul to be externalized and then immediately sharing it with your peers.
And whenever someone connects with your expressions of self, there's a chance it being "furry" didn't matter at all. It's just a bonus if your art speaks to that smaller niche of an audience, and see a response that mirrors the emotions and experiences that you put into it.
I'm starting to get a little incoherent on this maybe. Doing it for myself has always been #1. The furry stuff is less of an afterthought now but for the longest time I was just concerned about finish an album, not whether it read as "furry enough" to random people I'd never met.
Oh nah same its for me, I do it for myself and I don't care about appealing to people, it's more just like, reflecting on this sense of separation and I've said to others I think this is just something to deal with because furry is an inherently visual community.
been thinking about this for a bit, i think you and i having also been around for the better part of over 15 years (lmao sorry), we've seen the scene ebb and flow and it feels kinda hard to keep up with at some point, ya know? plus not being locked in with a fursona design can def feel isolating imo
i wrestle with these thoughts you've shared on a regular basis and just wanna say that you aren't alone in feeling them and i don't think it negates the level of gratitude you HAVE shown for the support you've received - it's just an odd scene to navigate and you're forever my #1 inspo bestie
We run into a similar issue with writing, but I think music has it even worse: What constitutes "furry" is for many a very visual experience, be that through art, or visual investiture via v/png-tubers or video essays, because visuals are easy to grasp. What makes media "furry" is always going 1/3
to be a more abstract conversation when there isn't some visual of a literal animal person. But even that said, there's good arguments that popular media like Zootopia aren't actually "furry" at all because they don't speak to a shared furry experience; they're literal stand-ins for greater 2/3
social issues that completely ignore why most furries come to the community to begin with: to escape institutionalized otherness; to defy oppressive norms; to explore self; to transgress. And what has historically lead the charge on all of those issues? Music. 3/3
Nah I get where you're coming from. Ppl like "that one civet" who scream about "FURRY MUSIC = FURRY COVER ART, FURRY LYRICS, FURRY PERFORMANCE!!!" are just trying to preserve some sort of elite status for themselves bc that's how they do it :p There's nothing wrong with being a furry who just makes-
music that isn't necessarily screaming FURRY. You don't need a particular type of art or lyrics or even style to be a furry musician. Furry is just part of who you are, just like musician is part of who you are... some of us call ourselves "furry musician" because we feel like those 2 communities-
No narcissism detected, and for whats its worth I think that what puts the furry in furry music is being part of the community and contributing art back into it. The amount of love you put into the fandom with your music is worth more than any fursona on album cover ever will be. ☺️
No worries dude! We all need the reassurance sometimes. And I wanna be a part of a community that celebrates the art it makes, not gate-keeps it. There’s enough of that OUTSIDE the fandom.

SINCERELY SIGNED, a person who makes very obviously "furry themed" music lmao
