This might not seem related to owls, but in the coming weeks, a lot of annoying people are going to handwring about and/or reflect on an ongoing pandemic they otherwise mostly ignore, downplay or deny continues

Considering how much of my life is devoted to distributing supplies to minimize further harm & reporting on the ongoing devastation, I have little to add now because I have steadfastly said & done the things that matter as this progresses. I adapted to the actual new normal years ago.

If much of the past five years has been unsettling, at least I understand how looking at & listening to creatures does a lot for a wild mind. I go outside, not to restaurants. (I’ve also learned humbling lessons about better footwear, collapsible seating, delicious protein snacks, bigger hats.)

Ed Yong talks about birds + pandemic panic-neglect already. Like I said, I doubt I have anything particularly novel to contribute to the topic. But I'm grateful I live very well with my own grounded self. I know who I am, and I do what’s right. I urge others to be right. It’s never too late.
