For millennia this has actually been the exact difference between a slave and a free man.
A free man exchanges the fruits of his production for money.
A slave exchanges his freedom, his time, his skills, for his life, for not having to starve

There is no consensual agreement in an imbalance of power. One party makes money by buying the means to produce, while the other has to work there to make money and not starve. It’s a dumb system
