If she wants to protest the fossil fuel industry she should go to oil company buildings. Vandalizing art is counterproductive attention-seeking bullshit. Screw that.

Oh IDK but it seems waaaayyyy back in the 90's ACT-UP got lots of attention by sending press releases, inviting press to actions & having protests that tied into what they were protesting: people dying from a deadly disease.
The media covers art vandalism as “look at the bullshit this dumb cunt did”. I get it you want to pretend you’re a freedom fighter by supporting tweets and grandstanding actions.
When we all die because of the ongoing climate catastrophe, there won’t be any art or anyone to enjoy it. That’s why destroying art is acceptable in the name of climate protest. The oil companies destroy things that matter to us all. Like art.
I’m sorry it doesn’t make sense to you Jon. But just to say - protest is not supposed to be optically pleasing. It supposed to bring a message across and disrupt and wake people up. You’d do well to remember this if you’re an American, because boy you guys need to get ugly urgently.
I'm not talking about the optics. I'm saying the logic you gave is counterintuitive. Maybe that's why no one is supporting those specific protestors. Their message doesn't make sense. And if I don't get it, then others surely won't either.
The point is you have heard about what she did and why. If she stood at the gates of a refinery with a sign the entire world would have shrugged and you’d have heard nothing about it.
How curious that you paid attention to and are engaging in conversation about this protest and not the ones that do happen at the buildings all the time. How very strange. Almost like this was effective protest.
I “paid attention” because the perpetrator posted in this thread, genius. If she had posted about spray painting Shell HQ I would’ve cheered her. But that’s not what she did.
A protest is absolutely NOT effective if it discourages people from joining your movement.
Yes it is. But its important You cant be a part of the fight if you dont know it exists, and not everyone has the money to put an ad in the paper, the news, on websites, etc. And people dont look at those ads anyways / have an ad blocker due to how ads are run. But people never ignore art vandalism
Art vandalism only discourages people from supporting the movement. It’s a major turnoff. It’s self defeating and stupid and the people who engage in it are attention seeking narcissists.
And while its your right to think that, i want you to think about something:
Can you name an Activist group that *did not* commit any crime? And if so, is the thing they're fighting against resolved, or is the fight still going on?
The point is to get people talking And its seam to done its job

maybe climate activists should try it.
Because they’ve had lots of protests at oil companies, and you’ve never heard of them.
The headlines that were actual above the fold, top of the news hour headlines are the only ones you paid attention to.
