We're all carrying bombs in our pockets.
Li-ion batteries aren't that safe - exploding phones, eBikes, eScooters, etc.
I'm under the impression that the batteries in these pagers were caused to explode, rather than a device being introduced; or have I missed some new news?
The experts I heard on TV were saying that a battery explosion was unlikely. Current thinking seems to be that the manufacturing process was infiltrated.
Not so sure, L-I batteries tend to catch fire as a result of a chain reaction, whilst that *may* cause an explosion, it's not usually the batteries themselves that explode?
#notanexpert, but the early days of Li-I saw pocket-explosions from phones in thermal runaway.
Fixed by adding a tiny computer to every battery, controlling max current (Mossad famously "good with computers").
I think a fully-charged phone battery is equivalent to ~10g gunpowder.
