Me: There should be only one billionaire, and it's George Lucas.
The people: I don't know if I agree with that, but when her kid started fussing, she had a snack right there in the purse she obviously bought on discount at Kohl's. Let's hear her out.
Honestly, one of the many things the baby boomers brought to our culture that need to go is the idea that leftist politics is an aesthetic and one that's weird and outside of the mainstream. Wanting good jobs, good health care, a clean planet, etc, shouldn't be stuck in hippie stereotypes.
I've joked recently that I don't know if I'm even a leftist or if the Overton window shifted so much that "Look, I'm not good at this political science and economic stuff, just make sure everyone's basic needs are met" is basically communism these days.
We let the idea of "freedom" become a rightwing concept - freedom to carry a gun, to treat employees badly, to hold bigoted ideas. But there are more potent freedoms - freedoms that matter to most people. Freedom from hunger, from disease, from fear.
