It’s amazing how they forget how all the elders around them worked their asses off to create the future and the present and that eventually the body fails with age if not overwork. That workers should be paid for their work and rewarded for a life time of work with a good retirement good care
Yeah, it’s sick. I got hurt bad in a car wreck in 2016, haven’t been able to work since, but getting disability here is like pulling teeth..so I haven’t yet. If husband died, I’d be so screwed.
It's hard everywhere. Apply now and mention how you haven't worked since (year). Get it started. Certainly takes long enough. Not helping are doctors who never want to do paperwork. So start now with whatever papers you have. Good luck to us all. It's not enough to live on, but it's something.

It’s sad. A few years back I saw a video of a woman helping out the dog of a homeless person. She took a live video of the whole thing, the man agreed to let her take the dog. It still haunts me to this day that she never offered him help. I love animals and own rescues, but all lives need help.
Love thy neighbor. Feed the poor. Do not judge unless you’re perfect. Don’t profit off of God. Turn the other cheek. Really- These days- those that think they “stand for Christianity” in American politics need to just sit down.

I think we are headed towards Medicaid cuts and reduced eligibility. There will be more of “go to work.” One complication of poverty is the lack of affordable daycare. Someone could take minimum wage job, have benefits reduced, and be worse off financially because of daycare costs for children.
Sliding-scale based government daycare/ pre-K facilities ought to be built near or on elementary school grounds, to save duplication of some facilities.JMO.

There is a whole, huge subculture of "Christian" churches in which Jesus's ministry to the poor is NEVER taught. It's all about rote (if noisy) praise and "the prosperity gospel".

True story: a hungry man with kids went to his church for the food pantry. It was after hours. He worked when the pantry was open but he was desperate.
A church employee tried to turn him away without any food.
The pastor intervened and opened the pantry.

Their are Christian’s who believe in works and Christian’s who believe in faith alone will save them. I’m part of the works group and we do a tremendous amount of helping the poor. This post unfortunately is hate speech and will quickly invite hate from Christians, souring Bluesky as it did X.
Or justify abuse and in general convince anyone to do something that makes no sense with one word, God. Believe whatever you choose, don't force your chosen beliefs on others.
To them, Jesus is just a historical fact. They go to church because that is the "thing to do". They much prefer a man who tells them he is Jesus and love his style of "gimme gimme, gimmie!

I think you are mistaken. It is about “the poor” not having the dignity of a regular check but be made painfully aware they receive charity, the poor dregs and irredeemable sinners (if not they would be rich), thanks to the magnanimous and so charitable and humble and virtuous and loving Christians
I will never understand “Christians” that follow MAGA. I don’t see how they don’t understand that the two things, at least if you were truly a real follower of Christ’s teachings, don’t even come close to mixing.
